Gillett Square as an event space
It is widely recognised that events play a vital role in reducing anti-social behaviour, creating a peaceful atmosphere and bringing people from different backgrounds together in harmony. The opportunity to enjoy culture in a public space enhances wellbeing and community pride. Seeing children play encourages respectful behaviour from adults sharing the space.
Hackney Co-operative Developments holds a permanent entertainment license for Gillett Square, and works with local partners to put on a wide range of cultural events, large and small, over the summer months. HCD also provides a PopUp playground three times a week, as well as Zoom, a weekly bike repair project.
Gillett Square events are free of charge and inclusive, welcoming people of all backgrounds to share the space. Local people are encouraged to utilise the space for pro-social, cultural activity and creative expression of all kinds.
We have been pleased to work with a wide range of partners over the years to put on interesting events:
Gillett Square Action Group
Gillett Square Domino Club
Re-Live Organisation
and many more.
